Uruguay 2007

The plan had been made. Donaldo and I met up with Jose, and we met at the Buquebus terminal for the ride across the river to Uruguay, Jose's homeland.

All the photos on this site, and all the videos were taken with my pocket digital 8 megapixel Konica-Minolta camera. The video is almost worthless due to the lack of lighting, but the song is awesome. I had no idea what the words meant, but the beauty of it still gave me chills.

  • The Buquebus catamarans are pretty good boats with all the comforts, including air conditioning; a necessity in this climate.

With my love for boats I had been wanting to get on one of these, and this was a great reason to do so.

We departed from the terminal at Puerto Madero and headed out across this vast river to Colonia on the other side.

The river is the color of coffee, apparently silty from logging, and other erosive activities upstream. It is called the Rio Plata or Silver River, but bronze would be more accurate; the visibility in the water is a matter of inches.

The pictures on this page are just from the trip across, and the photos of the country are broken down into Colonia, Montevideo and Punte del Este.

We depart, travel for a couple hours , and approach Colonia in this series of photos.
