Colonia
Montevideo
All the photos on this site, and all the videos were taken with my
pocket digital 8 megapixel Konica-Minolta camera.
The river crossing is nearly over as we approach this jetty that
protects the port area. The buquebus ferry docks, and we disembark.
We'd arrived in
Colonia after crossing from Buenos Aires via Buqebus catamaran, and had
much of the day to spend in Colonia.
This motorcycle, made by Suzuki is on display in the terminal. We will
board the bus to Montevideo outside the terminal several hours
later.
We set out on foot and walked around the area near the terminal.
The cobblestone streets remain as installed by the Portuguese in the
1700s.
We walked further into the town, appreciating the
tranquility and beauty, as we encountered other tourists and
local people.
Colonia is absolutely a gem, and I recommend
the trip for any who are near. The best way is probably to boat over
from BA early in the morning, then return to BA on the last boat back.
It is a beautiful town rich in the history of Uruguay.
There are many more museums, and sights there than reflected herein.
Lacking
a plan or list of particular sites to visit, we were continually
fascinated by the vistas and edifices, all exuding the rich history of
the region.
